New Faces at CNS!

After many weeks of preparation, the ERP Infrastructure Group moved into their new home at CNS/SSRB on Friday, October 9, 2009. They are on the first floor, in the area which formerly housed the CICS group, Jim Arnette, and Richard Marquis; thanks very much to those folks for moving to new quarters in order to help make this happen. We also want to thank Lisa Redwine and Jack Schudel, who were also relocated during the shuffle.

For more information and to see all these new faces, read on!

Some CNS Units to Move to Eastside Campus

Some CNS Units Moving; Some Staying On Main Campus

Several CNS units, including our administrative offices, consisting of about 1/2 of CNS employees, will be moving away from the main campus in the spring of 2010. They will occupy some of the new office space in the building designated as UF-310 at the East Campus on Waldo Road.

In addition to the new office space, CNS will have a new machine room in its own building on the site. This building, designated as UF-310A, is currently in the planning stages.

Who's Moving?

  • Accounting
  • Administrative Services
  • Information Services
  • Mainframe Systems, including
    • The z/OS System Group
    • CICS
    • DB2
  • Open Systems Group
  • ERP Infrastructure

Who's Staying?

Even with the move, many CNS employees will remain on the main campus. Network Services, Operations, Telecom, and Network Infrastructure will stay in their current offices to offer immediate customer service.

In addition, CNS will continue operating its data-center machine rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor of the Bryant Hall Space Sciences Center and the CSE building.

New Office Building Scheduled for Completion May 2010

The site at 2004-2170 Waldo Road was formerly used as a complex of offices, warehouses, testing laboratories and equipment maintenance facilities by the Florida Department of Transportation, Bureau of Materials and Research Office. It will now be home to UF-310, a building designated for administrative offices and academic research facilities (offices, laboratories and training rooms). Several buildings have been demolished and others will be renovated. The intent of this building is to allow for expansion on the East Campus so that the main campus can expand its core operations.

UF-310A, East Campus Data Center

The site will also house UF-310A, a 1-story data center that will include approximately 10,000 square feet of computing space. The purpose of this building is to provide:

  • space for consolidation of campus servers into a central, secure, efficient facility
  • disaster-Recovery/redundancy of enterprise systems
  • space and infrastructure facilitate High-Performance Computing in support of the University's research mission

The new data center will be an addition to CNS's current machine-rooms (1st & 2nd floors of SSRB, and Computer Science Engineering (CSE)), which will continue operations as in the past.
