Complete Story at Right
Reminder: New CNS Log-On Screen (NERMVS, CICS, Admin Menu, TSO)
On Sunday, June 7, 2009, people signing on to mainframe applications (the "NERDC" screen) were welcomed by a new CNS
log-on screen. The new screen looks similiar to the former screen, with "CNS" in large letters at the top of the
screen, a terminal ID in the upper right corner, a menu, and a command line.
You do not need to change anything on your computer to see or use the new log-on screen. However, there are important
differences that you should know about. If you haven't already become familiar with the new screen, read the complete
story for all the info.
Barry Brooks Retires from CNS
It was the summer of 1974, and Barry Brooks had just landed his first job
with what was then NERDC. The job was Computer Operator, and it paid $3.90
per hour.
Barry has covered a lot of ground in the 35 years since that first job. On
June 24, coworkers and friends gathered at the Friends of Music room to
wish him well in his retirement.
TPX, Easytrieve & Panvalet to be Removed 08/01/2009
On Saturday, August 1, 2009, TPX, Easytrieve, and Panvalet software
products will no longer be available on the CNS z/OS system.

Recently I have been having difficulty opening my GatorLink account.
I am not sure if the server for UF was down, but it kept saying that my
username or password was incorrect. My username is xxxxxxxx and my
password is xxxxxxxx. I have not been able to get into my e-mail for over
a week now. If you know what I may be doing incorrectly or if you have any
suggestions that would be much appreciated. Thank you again. MO

Office of Information Security and Compliance Created
|

|
To implement the ITAP recommendations regarding information security and compliance, Dr. Frazier has asked Dr. Mike Conlon to lead an effort resulting in a single Office of Information Security and Compliance reporting directly to Dr. Frazier. The new office will serve all of UF and will include security professionals currently in multiple groups.
The new office will work closely with many other university offices including the Chief Privacy Officer, IT service providers at all levels, the Office of Audit and Compliance Review, the General Counsel, law enforcement, and many others to develop and maintain policy, perform risk assessments, develop training programs, respond to incidents, perform product evaluations and engage in compliance activities.
As part of this process, the university will establish a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) position and a search will be conducted. As described in the ITAP report, the CISO will report to the CIO. The CISO will lead the efforts of the new Office of Information Security and Compliance to improve UF's ability to protect its information assets.
All security policies, procedures and standards remain in place as these changes are implemented.
Heath Science Center IT Security to Join
The main campus Security group will soon be joined by the Health Science Center Information Technology Security team, headed by Colleen Ebel. The merger is expected to take about a year to fully complete.
Transition Will Improve Services
Conlon is overseeing the transition, which was sponsored by UF President
Bernie Machen and Interim Senior Vice President for Administration Brian
Beach. These changes are expected to improve both services and resources
to UF
and HSC users.
