Installation & Repair Services
Installation & Repair services are provided as a Team Effort by Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), Technicians, and Supervisors.
UF departments initiate installation or repair services by calling 273-1234 or submitting an online request at www.cns.ufl.edu/telecom. Both services are provided between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
The request should include the department's contact person, telephone number, and address. The request should include a brief description of the work desired, location of the work.
If your account is more than 60 days past due, service will be delayed until payment is received.
Repair Services
Telecommunications provides repair services to all UF owned telephone systems.
If the repair is Urgent please inform us at the time of placing request the Telecommunications Supervisor will be informed.
Repair work orders are issued to Telecommunications via a remote printer located in the Telecommunications Building 429 and are then distributed to technicians. Repair orders are given top priority, and it is Telecommunications policy to respond to all repairs within 24 hours after receiving the orders.
All repairs are on a time and material basis. There is a minimum $100.00 charge per work order and $75.00\hr for each additional hour
Installation Services
Each order is assigned to a CSR. This CSR will take a personal responsibility of tracking the status of all orders assigned. For this reason, all customer inquiries will be directed to the appropriate CSR.
The CSR will review the order and make a determination on the course of action to fulfill the customer's needs. If the order will require work by a Telecommunications Technician, it will be sent to the Telecommunications Supervisor for assignment. The work order will be assigned to a Technician. The Technician will make contact with customer to determine their needs and provide a cost estimate. If estimate is below $5000.00 and customer approves the Technician will commence work. On estimates over $5000.00, a purchase order must be approved before the work can be performed.
If the work order requires outsourcing, new ESSX line, cabling, etc, it will be added to the estimate and scheduled after work is approved.
The installation service provided by Telecommunications is funded only by charging an hourly rate for the technicians' time in performing the work. The hourly rate is $100.00 for the first hour and $75.00 for each additional hour. Telecommunications does not mark-up the cost of the materials used in installations. The cost charged to the UF community for materials is the same cost that Telecommunications pays for the materials.
At the present time, Telecommunications does not charge time and a half for after hour's services. Special arrangements can be made for after hour installations if there is a special need.
