  • Support was added for 1600 bpi tapes.

  • The SUS Regional Data Center plan was approved by the Governor and Cabinet on December 27.

  • The UFCC became the Northeast Regional Data Center of the State University System of Florida (October 16).
  • Dr. Charles Vernon Shaffer was named Director of the NERDC.
  • Operating hours were expanded to include Sunday access.
  • The Charging Algorithm was redesigned.
  • The /65 was replaced by an IBM 370/165 (1.8900 MIPS). 3330s replaced 2314s (2319s).
  • The 2703 was replaced by the 3705.

  • Terminal Data Centers were established to support end-user applications (UNF, ACS, CIRCA, SHANDS).
  • The IBM Model 2401 Tape drives were replaced by IBM 3420s.
  • A Second 1403 high speed printer was added.
  • The Customer Information Control System (CICS) was installed.
  • The NERDC Applications staff was moved to Weil Hall.
  • The Tape Library was built.
  • An additional room was constructed to house the extensive tape library.
  • SMF installed.
  • Panvalet installed.

  • A Gould Electrostatic Plotter was installed.
  • IBM 3330 disk drives were replaced by ITEL 7330s.
  • The Applications staff became the Center for Instructional and Research Computing Activities at UF (CIRCA).
  • Jim Conklin left the NERDC to become director of CIRCA.
  • HASP-to-HASP communications were established between the NERDC, NWRDC in Tallahassee, and CFRDC in Tampa.
  • Ron Schoenau was named Director of the NERDC.

  • A memory speedup was added to the /165.

  • A 4th megabyte of memory was added to the /165.
  • SWAP was installed to provide interactive processing (/EXEC).
  • 1200-baud modems were installed.

  • The /165 was replaced by an Amdahl 470/V6 (2.2 MIPS).
  • The 1401 system was removed.
  • Tape drives were upgraded to support 6250 bpi.

  • Facilities were added to produce Computer Output Microfiche(COM).
  • The Operating system was converted from MVT to MVS.
  • /*RELAY services were announced to allow jobs to be submitted from one data center and run at another.
  • The Florida Computer Crimes Act was passed.

  • The 3330 disks were replaced by 3350s (625 mb/unit).
